Ziggurat-Ensemble wordt Ensemble Zerafin
In the Ensemble ZERAFIN western and exotic instruments play together as if they were always meant to do so. Chinese and Arabic strings, Armenian reeds and Eastern-European panflute add timbres and flavours that blend wonderfully with the western instruments. Soaring above this eclectic mix is the powerful voice of avant garde Jazz singer Kristina Fuchs.
ZERAFIN is the ensemble formerly known as Ziggurat. During the five years of its existence, the majority of Ziggurat’s repertoire had been composed especially for the group by Theo Loevendie. Now, ZERAFIN is venturing out on its own, using the different background of the ensembles' musicians as a source of inspiration for the upcoming programs. The compositions meld a diverse collection of instruments, textures and rhythms into a musical experience that is hard to classify or even describe. It is a culture smashing body of work where middle-eastern drones melt into Jazz-tinged improvisations...where western classical muses dance with Latin rhythms...
ZERAFIN creates a musical Gondwana Land that is a celebration of the entire world’s musical heritage.
